who we are

Common Ground is a group of people working together to advance a shared passion for a true expression of the Body of Christ. We partner together to bring everyone to maturity in Christ.

We are various Ephesian 4-type ministries teaching and encouraging churches, and church leaders toward a New Testament Church expression.

We are Spirit-filled leaders joined together by authentic friendship, shared apostolic and prophetic values and beliefs, and a passion to see the church restored.
Who We Are
our team

Stephen Best
Stephen has been involved in church leadership for forty plus years. While his roots are in the Peterborough area, he has also ministered extensively throughout Canada and internationally. He and his wife Cindy have four grown children, of whom some are married with children of their own. Stephen is a Sociology graduate of Trent University, and Cindy is a Registered Nurse.
Stephen is Lead Elder at River Run in Peterborough and takes particular responsibility in the overall vision of the church. During the course of his ministry, he has mostly served within the context of apostolic networks and teams both nationally and internationally. He is constantly mindful of his rich spiritual heritage and how that has shaped his future.
It is Stephen’s desire to see a growing Spirit filled community of believers, rooted in New Testament practice reaching the world.

Fred Erb
Fred was raised on a farm and started down the path to become a dairy farmer until God redirected his path. After completing a three-year Bible Institute course in 1982 he responded to a call to church leadership by beginning to pastor. He has continued in pastoral church leadership since then and is presently the Lead Elder at Listowel Community Church.
His stated personal passion is to “love Jesus and become all that He intended for me”. Fred has a growing desire for mentoring leaders and building healthy relationships among churches and leaders. He has been involved with leadership training at home and in Mexico and Peru over the past 20 year.
Fred is married to Vickie who is an optometric assistant and together they have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. To relax he enjoys working in his flower gardens or spending time in his wood working shop.

Peru
Common Ground (Un Lugar en Comun) has been involved in encouraging churches and leaders in Peru for nearly twenty years. The ministry was born out of a prophetic conversation in Norway, which was then quickly corroborated by a friend in Canada leading to our first visit to Lima - all within four months.

Since then semiannual visits to Peru have produced strong relationships with several churches and church leaders in Lima, and in the surrounding area. We have endeavored to support the churches by being dependable friends, and by teaching and encouraging apostolic foundations in the churches. We count it a great privilege to share meals together, to teach in their homes and storefronts, and host small groups in our rented apartment.
What's more we are glad to say that the friendship is mutual, as friends both Peruvian and Canadian have travelled back and forth across borders, strengthening and caring for the churches in both countries.
